Extra Large Duplex Goat House Project
Goat House With Side Entrance
A local goat sanctuary (Smith Farm Goat Sanctuary in Fuquay-Varina, NC.) reached out to me asking for help on building a few goat houses because they needed more shelters — and specifically one for the boys, since some of them tend to bully others and keep them out of shelter. To make sure every goat had a safe, comfortable place to rest, we decided to build TWO extra-large DUPLEX goat houses with side entrances in separate pastures.
This was my first duplex goat house with side entrances that I built. Basically it’s a large goat house separated by a wall, but instead of being all open in the front, we only left the two side corners open. Keep in mind, with this design you will be using a lot more posts which will add to your cost factor.
This design creates multiple protected corners allowing more goats to snuggle up and stay warm and dry and it’s also perfect when you have bullies that don’t allow other goats in their house. So far I have build three goats houses for them. Because this one is so uniques, I wanted to share with you how to build an extra large duplex goat house with side entrances.
Project Costs & Donations
Although we did receive a small amount of donated materials, the sanctuary covered most of the material costs, and I personally paid for the metal roofing to help support the project. —I never ask for payment for my time when it comes to helping rescues.
How Your Donations Are Used
I created this page to make it easy for everyone to follow my journey and share in my passion for goats. It also provides full transparency so you can see exactly how your donations are used.
Project Details
Each duplex measures 7 feet deep by 16 feet wide, with heights of just over 4 feet in the back and 5 feet in the front. These dimensions allowed us to use 8-foot metal roofing panels, creating a durable and efficient design.
Materials Used
- 4″ x 4″ pressure-treated posts for the foundation
- 2″ x 6″ x 8′ lumber for the top framing
- 2″ x 4″ x 8′ boards for roof support
- 36″ x 8′ metal roofing panels
- ARAUCO Primed Wood Panels (3/8″ x 4′ x 8′) from Home Depot for the sides and back
This was my first time using the ARAUCO primed panels. While I liked that they came pre-primed, they were a bit thinner than expected. For future builds, I’ll return to using 5/8″ T1-11 siding for added strength and durability.
🪵🐐 Goats are my passion, and my mission is to support goat owners, farmers, and rescues in need by lending a hand wherever I can.
If you need something smaller, take a look at the goat shelter with plastic pallets that I built, or this 6′ deep x 8′ wide goat shelter that I also built.

One Person Can Make a Difference
Want to make a real difference in the lives of animals? Help me, help them.
I personally cover most of the materials out of pocket when I volunteer to help, but this is where your support truly makes a difference. Every contribution—big or small—goes directly toward providing immediate, hands-on help for goats and other animals in need, and it enables me to continue supporting rescues that are struggling or need help. Please consider helping me carry this mission forward. Thank you so much for your support! 🙏🙂🐐
About Me
My passion is helping goat rescues and animal rescues in North Carolina
Through my business I was introduced to a home builder by the name of Jerry Pounds. He owns and operates an animal rescue in Benson NC called “Old Cowboy Animal Rescue”. July 2020 I decided to visit the animal rescue and donate some of my time. When I got there, I fell in love with the goats and donkeys.
From that day forward through volunteering, awareness, donations and marketing it has been my top priority to help goats and donkeys in any way I can.

My Mission
My mission has been to make a difference in the lives of people, goats, donkeys, goat rescues, animal rescues and farm animals in need by providing hands-on help and support. Whether it’s helping put up fencing, building a shelter, or providing hay, straw, or feed to animals, it gives me joy and a sense of purpose to be able to help.
- Changing lives helping rescues and farmers in need.
- Shelters fixing or re-building current shelters.
